Is Section 80C available under the new tax regime?
No. Section 80C deductions are not available under the new tax regime (Section 115BAC). Only the employer's NPS contribution under Section 80CCD(2), standard deduction of ₹75,000, and a few other specified deductions are available under the new regime.
What is the maximum deduction under Section 80C?

Can I claim 80C deduction for home loan principal repayment?
Yes. Principal repayment of a home loan qualifies under Section 80C, within the overall ₹1.5 lakh cap. However, if the property is sold within 5 years of possession, all 80C deductions claimed on principal repayment and stamp duty are reversed and added back to taxable income in the year of sale.
Which 80C investment has the best returns?
ELSS mutual funds have historically delivered the highest returns among 80C instruments, with the shortest lock-in period of 3 years. However, returns are market-linked and not guaranteed. PPF offers guaranteed returns (currently 7.1% p.a.) with a 15-year lock-in and complete tax exemption on maturity (EEE status). The choice depends on your risk appetite and liquidity needs.
